Sony is poised to take the wraps off two new Xperia smartphones at the MWC 2017 in February.
The new Xperia handsets will reportedly deploy a MediaTek Helio P20 MT6757 processor. This news is courtesy of online publication Xperiablog, which cites Sony's user-agent profile or UAProf documents.
According to the latest report, the processor combines quad-core 2.3GHz and quad-core 1.6Ghz. The device will supposedly run on Mali-T880 GPU.
The two Sony smartphones are apparently codenamed G3112 and G3221.
Xperia Smartphone Specs
The G3112 will reportedly sport a 720p display, which suggests that this Xperia smartphone could be a low-range offering from the company. The G3221, on the other hand, is rumored to sport a 1080p display, which hints at the smartphone being a mid-range offering from Sony.
Of the two rumored Sony Xperia smartphones, the G3221 is likely to be more expensive.
Previous leaks have pointed to Sony having two smartphones in the works with the model numbers Xperia G3121 and G3112. While the current leak also points to the existence of the G3112, it does not mention the G3121.
At the time, it was rumored that both the Sony Xperia smartphones would be equipped with a quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor. Rumors also suggested that the two devices would have different screen sizes.
The Xperia G3121 was alleged to have a 5.2-inch screen, whereas its sibling the Xperia G3112 would boast a bigger 5.5-inch display. At the time, no details pertaining to the resolution of the two handsets was available. However, judging by the leaked UAProf document, the 5.2-inch variant will be the one to have the 720p screen and the 5.5-inch display would have a 1080p resolution.
Rumors that Sony would debut the two mysterious Xperia smartphones at the CES 2017 were rife. However, the two Android-powered handsets did not debut at the event, which suggests that Sony could be eyeing a MWC 2017 launch for the devices.
The Sony Xperia handsets will likely run on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat operating system.
The letter G in the codename may likely represent Sony's 2017 lineup of smartphones according to reports. This follows logic as Sony adopted the E and F characters in 2015 and 2016, respectively, to refer to its new range.
Release
It is not known when Sony will introduce the rumored Xperia handsets to the world. With the MWC 2017 round the corner, consumers would be hoping that Sony has some surprises in store for them this February.
