The last rumor that the tech world got about Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 was through a post on Chinese microblogging site Weibo. Samsung Galaxy S9 Could Include 7nm Chip

Samsung is all set to begin its 7nm chip production by 2018. Rumors are swirling that the Samsung Galaxy S9 - the successor of the unannounced Galaxy S8 - could be powered by the new 7nm chip.

Samsung aiming to produce 7nm chips for early 2018

Samsung is aiming to begin production of 7nm chips in early 2018, according to a report from ZDNet.co.kr (translated). The managing director of Samsung’s LSI Division, Dr. Heo Kuk, stated that the company would introduce extreme ultraviolet exposure (EUV) equipment to aid its production.

“We will maximize the advantages of EUV in the 7-nanometer process and secure competitiveness in terms of performance and power consumption,” he said.

Should Samsung’s 7nm chips go into production next early next year as suggested, it could mean that they arrive in time for the Samsung Galaxy S9.

Meanwhile, Samsung’s semiconductor rival TSMC plans to test 7nm chips in Q2, 2017, suggesting it could have them ready in 2018 for the iPhone 9.

Samsung announced the introduction mass production of the 10nm chip in November last year and is expected to make use of the chip in this year’s flagship phones, including the (rumored) Snapdragon 835/Exynos 8895 bearing Galaxy S8. Samsung’s 14nm chips are anticipated to move to its midrange and wearable devices.

Samsung has finally released the official results of its investigation into the Galaxy Note 7 explosions. The probe revealed that there were two different flaws in the two kinds of batteries used for the controversial smartphone.

The official announcement confirmed previous reports on the results of the investigation while also providing more detail on what went wrong with the controversial smartphone.

Samsung Blames Batteries For Galaxy Note 7 Fiasco

Last week, a source revealed that Samsung has pinpointed the batteries of the Galaxy Note 7 as the culprit for the explosions that caused units of the smartphone to catch fire. It was said that the hardware and software of the Galaxy Note 7 had nothing to do with the issue.

A more recent report further revealed that irregular sizes and manufacturing problems caused the defects in the Galaxy Note 7 batteries that resulted in overheating. Samsung used two kinds of batteries for the Galaxy Note 7, one manufactured by affiliate Samsung SDI and the other by supplier Amperex Technology. The Samsung SDI batteries were discovered to have irregular sizes in preliminary investigations that led to the first Galaxy Note 7 recall, leading to Samsung tapping Amperex as the sole battery supplier for the smartphone. However, the increased rate of production led to manufacturing problems, with defects pushing Samsung to once again recall the devices.

Official Results Of Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 Investigation

The official results that Samsung has released gave even more detail on what went wrong with the batteries of the Galaxy Note 7.

In a press conference, Dong-jin Koh, the mobile business head for Samsung, confirmed that there were two distinct instances of defects in the Galaxy Note 7 batteries.

In the first batch of batteries manufactured by Samsung SDI, the upper right hand corner of the batteries had defects in the form of deflections in the negative electrodes. There were also cases of incorrect positioning for the tip of the negative electrode, resulting in increased chances of the negative layer and the positive layer of the batteries coming into contact and short circuiting.

In the second batch of batteries manufactured by Amperex and placed in replacement units of the Galaxy Note 7, there were traces of melted copper discovered near the area of the negative electrode. Due to such welding issues, there was likewise an increased risk of contact between the positive and negative layers of the batteries.

To support the investigation, Samsung employed 700 engineers in testing procedures involving 200,000 units of the Galaxy Note 7 and 30,000 of the smartphone's batteries. The company also tapped external investigators from TUV Rheinland, Exponent, and UL to aid in the probe.

What's Next For Samsung?

"It was a very painful period, but in a couple of months we learned a lot," said Koh in an interview with Recode, adding that the controversy should serve as an opportunity for Samsung and the entire mobile device industry to improve safety measures involving lithium-ion battery technology.

Samsung is taking full responsibility for all the components of the smartphones and will now be adding several steps in its testing procedures for lithium-ion batteries. The company is also forming an advisory board focused on batteries.

Samsung's head for the United States, Tim Baxter, believes that if not for the manufacturing problems encountered by the ramp up of production for the Amperex batteries, the Galaxy Note 7 would still be available in the market.

The big question on the matter is whether consumers will once again be able to trust Samsung and its mobile devices, with the upcoming flagship Galaxy S8 to serve as the barometer on how the company will bounce back from the Galaxy Note 7 debacle.

Samsung has finally released the Android 7.0 Nougat update for its Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones.

This update had been eagerly awaited by Samsung users and they can now enjoy the new features the latest version of Android brings.

However, a possibly irritating bug comes with the update which makes the screen resolution get scaled automatically to FHD (1920 x 1080), making it the default resolution on the Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy S7 smartphones.

Why Is This Happening?

This has probably been done keeping in mind Samsung's newly integrated power saving mechanism. The doomed Note 7 was the first handset to carry this scheme. This power saver mode enables users to change the screen resolution to as low as 720p in a bid to save battery usage.

What Is The Default Resolution?

The new update carries the option of choosing between any of the following screen resolution modes - namely the WQHD mode (2560 x 1440), the FHD mode (1920 x 1080) and the HD mode (1280 x 720). The WQHD mode consumes the most power while the HD mode requires minimal battery consumption.

The Android Nougat update houses the native WQHD 2K resolution and it is puzzling why the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge smartphones automatically downgraded to 1080p instead of remaining at the native resolution. Only some users have reported the bug whereas others may not even have noticed it yet.

How Can It Be Changed?

The difference in resolution is not much, as the phones look great even on FHD mode. The texts and images are crystal clear on the FHD mode and it isn't much to be bothered about. Samsung has defaulted the screen resolution to FHD mode but you can easily change it to suit your needs.

If your handset is effected by this bug, there is a simple way to fix it.

Step 1: Go to the Settings tab
Step 2: Tap on the Display header
Step 3: Tap on Change screen resolution
Step 4: Slide all the way to the right to 2560 x 1440

Rumors and leaks pertaining to the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) have been swirling online as the device's unveiling nears.

Close on the heels of news that the smartphone has received the FCC certification, as well as a purported case for the device being listed online on Amazon, comes the rumor that the Galaxy J7 (2017) will be making its way to U.S. carrier AT&T.

AT&T will not be the only U.S. carrier to be offering the handset as the Galaxy J7 (2017) will also be picked up by Verizon Wireless and U.S. Cellular. This news comes courtesy well-known leakster Evan Blass who goes by the Twitter handle @evleaks. .

"Add Verizon and U.S. Cellular to the list" he tells fans. This is not the final list as other carriers may get in on the action in the near future. However, till now, it is only AT&T, Verizon and U.S. Cellular who are prepared to launch this device in the country.

Galaxy J7 2017 Rumored Specs

Per our report on Jan. 15, the 2017 variant of Galaxy was spotted on GeekBench running on Android Nougat, which has increased the expectations of the users even more.

Judging by the rumors and leaks, the smartphone is expected to sport a 5.5-inch AMOLED screen. It may also be powered by a Snapdragon 625 processor and have 3 GB of RAM.

The smartphone could tout a 13-megapixel primary camera, as well as a 5-megapixel front camera. It may be preloaded with Android 7.0 Nougat and house a 3000 mAh battery. It could also be equipped an on-board storage capacity of 16 GB.

Release

Currently, Samsung has not divulged any information of the release date of the 2017 variant of the Galaxy J7 - the successor of the Galaxy J7 2016. It is expected that the smartphone will make an appearance at the MWC 2017 in February, where Samsung is also expected to unveil the Galaxy S8 smartphone.

It is important to note that Blass has not yet divulged any information about T-Mobile or Sprint picking offering the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017). 

The pricing for the impending Samsung smartphone is not known. However, it is expected to be affordable and could release a few months after its MWC 2017 debut.

Samsung Galaxy S8 leaks are gaining traction as the impending debut of the handset at theMWC 2017 draws nearer.

The 2017 flagship smartphone from the company - the successor of the Galaxy S7 - is in the news again thanks to a leaked render.

While the Galaxy S8 has leaked online on innumerable occasions, what sets this one apart is that it shows off the handset in a new hue - gold.

The appearance of the Galaxy S8 donning a gold color suggests that Samsung is looking to lure consumers once again with this option. The Galaxy S7 is available in a gold as well as platinum gold option, however, the latest leak points to a purely gold toned handset.

The latest leak comes courtesy of GizChina, which claims that the image of the Galaxy S8 is not a render but the real deal.

"This photo was sent to me earlier today by a company that is making accessories for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 and appears to show a leaked model of the upcoming Galaxy S8 flagship smartphone," notes the publication's Andi.

The Leaked Image: Real Or Fake?

Even though the leakster claims that the image is authentic, its genuineness is circumspect. The Galaxy S8 shown off in the image has the Samsung brand name. Interestingly, the area where the branding is placed is where the home button of the predecessor Galaxy S7 is located.

This suggests that either Samsung has shifted the placement of the fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S8 from the home button to the rear of the device, or as rumor have suggested, the sensor is now embedded in the device's display.

Apart from showing off a glossy gold metal body, the image also reveals that the handset's body has been curved to match the display. The onscreen icons on the alleged Galaxy S8 reveal that the handset will support NFC.

Moreover, the Android UI shows details in Chinese which hints that this leaked unit is likely an international variant of the impending Galaxy S8.

The Galaxy S8 is rumored to feature a 5.5-inch OLED screen and may house the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. The smartphone is also expected to pack in 6 GB of RAM and run on Android 7.0 Nougat.

The Galaxy S8 may also house an iris scanner like the Galaxy Note 7 and may feature Bixby, its very own AI personal assistant.

Samsung is rumored to release the smartphone on April 15 and Android users would be looking forward to the handset's debut at the MWC 2017 in February

And for Samsung, we will continue to see the same thermal pipe technology that we saw in the Galaxy S7. The highly-anticipated Galaxy S8 was allegedly supposed to adopt two heat pipes, but apparently that plan was axed. DigiTimes claims that mass shipments of these heat pipes from Auras Technology and Chaun Choung Technology will begin in February, in time for the expected S8 unveiling in April.

The flood of rumors surrounding the unannounced Samsung Galaxy S8 continue to hit the internet with no signs of slowing down. The latest such unconfirmed report claims Samsung’s next flagship handset will be able to perform visual searches and offer text recognition using its camera.

The story comes from Sam Mobile, citing unnamed sources. It claims that the camera app on the Galaxy S8 will include its own Bixby button, something we heard a while back. Samsung has finally made available the Galaxy J3 Emerge, the successor of the Galaxy J3, in the U.S. for preorder.

The company quietly listed the smartphone on its website and the Galaxy J3 Emerge is believed to be a tweaked variant of Samsung's yet-to-be announced Galaxy J3 (2017).

Samsung's website listing reveals that the Galaxy J3 Emerge will be available for three U.S. carriers namely - Sprint, Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile. The entry-level handset has been priced at $234.99.
