HTC has apparently stopped the Android Nougat update rollout for its HTC 10 flagship, but it will reportedly resume it within three weeks.
Things have not been going so well for HTC in recent years, after it lost significant ground to Apple and Samsung on the highly competitive smartphone market. The company has been trying to make a comeback and relive its glory days, but the HTC 10 was not the resounding success it likely hoped for.
It's not that the HTC 10 did not have powerful enough features, but it just didn't live up to the hype and failed to generate the strong sales and market performance the company needed to get an edge against rivals such as the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the iPhone 7.
Nevertheless, HTC always took pride in being one of the first smartphone makers except Google to deliver new Android OS versions to its smartphones. Lately, however, that changed as well, as Motorola and LG beat HTC to the punch and released Android 7.0 Nougat to their flagships first.
HTC still has a good reputation for releasing major Android updates in a timely manner and it did so
with the HTC 10, but it ran into some issues in the process and had to pull the update.
HTC 10 Nougat Update
More specifically, the HTC 10 started getting a taste of Android 7.0 Nougat a few months ago, but not all devices got the new firmware. As it turns out, some bugs slipped to the cracks and last week, HTC Germany announced that the Android 7.0 Nougat was on hold for now.
The company did not offer additional details as to why it halted the rollout or when it will solve the issues, but it now seems that it won't take too long. Trusted tipster LlabTooFeR posted an update claiming that HTC will resume the rollout for the European version of the HTC 10, as well as the carrier models, within three weeks.
Moreover, the tipster says that when it resumes the Nougat rollout, HTC will also include the latest Android security patch for January.
What Happened?
If this turns out to be accurate, HTC 10 owners in Europe who have yet to get the software bump to Android 7.0 Nougat will have to wait a bit longer for HTC's engineers to patch the bugs that forced the company to halt the deployment.
LlabTooFeR did not offer any details either regarding what unforeseen issues led to the temporary update pause, but the bugs were most likely critical if the only solution was to put the rollout on hold. HTC is yet to make a statement, but it's expected to provide at least some details soon
