The Android 7.0 Nougat software update for the Honor 8 would roll out on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017 in Japan. The update will be available in U.S. some time in February 2017.
(Photo : Honor)Huawei has stunned its consumers by releasing the much-anticipated Android 7.0 Nougat update along with EMUI 5.0 for Huawei Honor 8 earlier than expected.
As reported earlier by TechTimes, the update was supposed to arrive in the market sometime around February 2017, which would make the Honor 8 Smartphone the first handset in the Honor line-up to get the latest Google OS.
A press release from Huawei Japan has confirmed that its sub-brand Honor will start rolling out the update on Jan. 16, 2017 for all its users in Japan. The company has also decided to push out the update incrementally to all the Honor 8 users within a month.
The update will bring the EMUI 5.0 UI for the Honor 8 users. Akin to Xiaomi's MIUI and Samsung's TouchWiz, the EMUI 5.0 is a customized Android architecture made especially for Huawei based on Android 7.0 Nougat. Talks of incorporating the EMUI 5.0 build in Honor 8 have been circling since November 2016.
EMUI 5.0 Update Brings In New Feature In Honor 8
The Android 7.0 Nougat update will take the Honor 8 phone's build from FRD-L02C635B130 to FRD-L02C635B360. The update will weigh 1.97 GB and will bring with it new enhancements like a power management system with different power mode sets, a new app drawer and a new algorithm which will track the most used app and will prioritize them.
According to Huawei, the update will also enhance the system, its stability and application versatility.
To get the latest update, the current build of Honor 8 must be on FRD-L02C635B130. If a user is on the build number FRD-L02C635B100, he or she will need to upgrade it to FRD-L02C635B130, to install the Android 7.0 Nougat update.
It is recommended that users keep the battery level at 50 percent or above at the time of installing the update. It is advisable to make a backup of the data.
Honor 8 users will be able to install the Nougat update from the OTA notification and also via the official HiCare application.
Honor 8 Nougat Update In The U.S.
Although the Android Nougat 7.0 update will be rolling out for Honor 8 users in Japan from Jan. 16, 2017, users of the smartphone in the U.S. and other countries can expect the software update to makes its way to their handset a month later.
An exact date of the update's U.S. rollout has not been shared by the company.
