Samsung Galaxy S8 And S8 Edge/Plus: Mass Production Beginnin

Samsung is in the final stretch of finalizing its next-generation Galaxy S8 series. A new report claims the company will begin mass producing the smartphones in March and will have 10 million units built and ready to launch for its expected April release.

In the months leading up to the launch of the Galaxy Note 7, many of the phablet's specs and features leaked, in addition to a report claiming that Samsung was planning to enter mass production of the smartphone in July in order to have 5 million units ready to ship. When the smartphone went on sale in August, the stockpile wasn't enough, and the device quickly sold out, forcing the company to issue a statement that it experienced "unprecedented demand" for the device and was working hard to reach replenish stock.

Samsung also faced a similar situation a few months before the Note 7's release with the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. The pair shattered sales records for the company by selling 10 million units in the first month, and it looks like Samsung is confident that its next-generation flagship Galaxy S8 series will be just as popular.

ET News is reporting that Samsung will begin delivering the first batch of parts to its manufacturing plants in February, and mass production for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 edge/Plus will kick off in March. The company will reportedly have 10 million units ready to ship when the new smartphones are released in April.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 edge/Plus are expected to use the same Y-OCTA display technology that made its debut on the Galaxy Note 7 and drop hardware home and navigation keys for 3D Touch-like on screen buttons in order to accommodate its bezel-less curved edge Super AMOLED displays. Some reports claim the devices will sport 5-inch and 6-inch displays, while maintaining the overall size of that of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.

Samsung is expected to ship the Galaxy S8 and S8 edge/Plus with either an Exynos 8895 or Snapdragon 835 processor depending on region, Harman stereo speakers, USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer, and possibly built-in support for the company's S Pen stylus.
